The GDP has done a good job of exposing what will be (mark my words) just the tip of the iceberg of corruption that is forming beneath Chairman Charles Bannister and District 1 Commissioner Shirley Lasseter. After today’s debacle in which a majority of the Commission voted to pay double the appraised value for land owned by a Bannister crony, the abuses exposed by this article made perfect sense…
If after reading the article you believe the following from Bannister, I have a transfer station in Lawrenceville to sell you.
Chairman Bannister said he wasn’t aware that White was involved with Lancaster or that Gary was involved with the station on Alcovy Industrial Boulevard. For the Alcovy site, he said Gary wasn’t the applicant, Transfer East LLC was. He also said his treasurer handles all financial transactions involving political donors.
GDP: Laws for disclosure in debate

When I watched the video of the BOC meeting yesterday afternoon one thought came to mind. If there was a mortgage involved with the purchase of this property then there would be a strong case for Mortgage Fraud being committed by the Commissioners that voted for this outrage and a strong possibility that someone would be going to jail. But no, we the taxpayers of Gwinnett County will just shell out $2,290,662.00 for 33.198 acres of land that we don’t need.
Being a REALTOR, I understand that appraisers don’t always arrive at the exact same value for property. The general rule of thumb is that there came be a 5% variance between the high and low values. But for one appraiser to arrive at a value of $33,104 per acre and another to arrive at $69,000 per acre is ridiculous. This brings me back to my original thought (which I have modified slightly), I wish there was a mortgage involved……….
