1. Choose a consumer event that reaches your demographic. (It’s probably more affordable than you think it is.) Sign up as an exhibitor.
2. Come up with something to give away with your company’s logo and information on it. (We chose water bottles since we were at a road race.) Magnets and brochures also work.
3. Blog about how you’re going to be at the event. Invite your facebook friends. Send links of your pr blogging to the race director. Include the info in your e newsletter.
4. Embroider running caps with your new cool logo. Try to do this more than two days before the event unless you go to a super nice embroiderer, like www.smilingdogembroidery.com, who does a rush job for you. (Yes. There really is a smiling dog there.)
5. Lure folks to your booth with color and organization. We set-up rows of pink water bottles on the left side and green ones on the right. They both matched our logo’d banner. It made for a bright and easy-on-the-eye presentation that drew the runners to us.
6. Don’t hard sell. Make it fun for your booth visitors. Ask them things like “how was the race? Were you happy with your time?” Of course, if it’s not a race, change your questions and talk about the weather.) Then, give them their gift. For the ones who linger a few extra seconds, ask if they have any questions.
7. Put out a blank book to get email addresses for new subscribers to your e newsletter.
8. If someone seems particularly interested in what you do, see if there’s a way to get them involved in your Cause Marketing program. (I met a woman with a local women’s church group who wants to help us collect “Sweaters for Seniors” this coming fall.)
9. Get to know fellow booth neighbors. Find out what they do and share your information, too.
10. After the event, blog about it some more and make a YouTube video like this one.
