County to Scrap Trash Plan

The County Commission is moving quickly to address the sanitation plan snafu following the Superior Court judge’s ruling this week that the county erred in granting authority to manage the plan to a private entity, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful (GCB).

Reportedly angry that GCB lawyers failed to recognize what was an easily-anticipated flaw in the plan and incensed that GCB’s briefings on the plan did not include information about stiff fines, county officials have abandoned the GCB plan and are taking steps to minimize confusion about which companies will provide trash service on January 1.

The county will establish a call center, probably to be open for business on Monday, to handle residents’ questions about the status of their trash service. The county will also renew the franchises for all trash haulers, both the current providers and the two that had won the service contracts under the GCB plan. In coming weeks, the county will meet with all haulers to involve them in whatever plan evolves.

I do not understand why our price of garbage collection was increased & it is not being reduced. When they tried to force the implementation of the GCB plan on us we received a letter & a bill with the new increase on it, whichw e understood was because of the new plan?? Is our bill now going to be decreased & a refund offered us?
